Review of Harishchandrachi Factory (2009) by Amit P — 17 Feb 2010
Tremendously Wonderful... What can you expect from Paresh Mokashi... He is a genius storyteller... A thorough researcher and an artist... Depicts old time 'Bombay' and the 'Bombaykars' very realistically.
.. Humorously showcased the Never Say Die attitude of Phalke and his family... Somewhere I felt that a few wider shots would've done justice in terms of the magnitude of the film... But who cares with afilm that is this great Another thing that delights me is the pure Marathi language that we get to hear through out the film.
.. Tired of those 'ghaati' and 'agri' accent which almost peeps into every marathi film till date... A few memorable scenes are those in which the entire audience is facing the screen but Phalke is sitting the other way facing the projector room watching the projector light.
.. Why didn't Maysabha and UTV use this as a poster pic for marketing??? Another scene when he walks in to the British office and without any consciousness says in a Marathi accent " I am Dhundiraaj Phalke from India, I want to learn to make a motion picture, Can you help?" Simply hilarious.
.. The rehearsals, phalke's actual shoot of the first motion picture of India, everything is just so enjoyable... Hats Off... Doesnt matter if it's out of the Oscar race, this is a movie that we can cherish and show to the generations to come, how a novice became a film maker with his sheer risk taking attitude and a strong belief in himself.
.. Many Indian actors and technicians didn't even knew who Phalke was... Thanks to Paresh and his team they wrote the Chapter One of the history of film-making in India...
