Review of Hardware (1990) by Scott J — 05 Aug 2008
Brilliant post apocalyptic sci-fi horror. Loved it as a teenager and re-discovered fairly recently. Also just went to see it at 'The Outer Limits' festival in Edinburgh with the Director Richard Stanley doing a Q&A.
He's one mad bastard, but very likable. Some facts he said about the film: 1. Sinead O'Conner was supposed to be the taxi driver but dropped out and was replaced by Lemmy from Motorhead, he done it for a bottle of Jack Daniels! 2.
The original script was based in a housing estate in London and Bill Paxton was the lead, Dylan McDermott was put in the role my Miramax. 3. The colours scheme was the opposite to the sci-fi films of the 80's such as purple and blue in Terminator.
4. The film was made as a horror, based on the italian film of Dario Argento to name a few. 5. Chris Cunningham was 15 and worked on it for free, doing the eye gouge scene effects. I wish they would release it on DVD in the UK!!
