Review of Hardcore Henry (2015) by Jeremy P — 09 Apr 2016
Not the craziest movie I've ever seen, but damn! Crazy enough indeed. Yes the entire movie is from a first-person perspective and if you're worried about that being too disorienting for you, then yes it might very well be.
But it didn't bother me at all so there is some hope. 90 minutes of amazing stunts, action, and visual effects. Sharlto Copley is really good as the character you see the most, but I can't really tell you who he is without spoiling a neat surprise.
However, you're sort of the main character... he doesn't speak at all, and there's only the briefest of looks at his face in a reflective surface. If he shakes his head yes or no, the entire world on screen moves too.
Now, I think the intention was to make a crazy first-person action movie, and they succeeded, but it's also the most like a video game a movie has ever been. Well, at least from any movie I've seen.
Since I do indeed love video games (shocker I know), I got into it all that much more because of how he was "playing" all these scenarios. Great fun.
