Review of Hardcore Henry (2015) by Sanmi O — 18 Apr 2016

I was anticipating this project for months. This is why I felt so sad it did not live up to expectations. On the good side it was a thrilling adrenaline experience. The fight sequences and practical effects had my heart racing and kept me on the edge of my sit for more than half of the run time.

The originality in the style of shooting was definitely a breath of fresh air. It delivered 110% on its visuals, vividness, and action (minus some of the running scenes that might have been a bit too disorienting).

However it was awful to always be sucked out of the engrossing fight and action sequences by a paper thin plot line, sub par to awful acting and just poorly written characters. It seemed like awful improvised dialogue and characters were padded around cool action sequences.

I do not mind an okay plot line, but when such actively distracts me from my immersion and viewing experience then I find it unforgivable. If a little bit more effort was put into grounding the characters in reality or improving on the performances, this might have been my best viewing experience of the year.
