Woo did a better job on Hard Target before he realized he had a “style”, and championed that ahead of doing his job. Here, the man gets on with it and directs a better-than-average actioner. Van Damme shows initiative in teaming with the Chinese director, with the New Orleans settings lending a sense of exoticism to what would otherwise be a straightforward flick.
Butler a resourceful complement, but it’s Henriksen’s performance that outshines others’.
