Review of Hard Target (1993) by Jeff G — 06 May 2008
The americanization of john woo. it started here he still has his sense of over the top action but at least here he adds a certain art and deepness to it. before it became cliche with the doves. This was probably one of the last of the good van damme movies.
it's a little dated (the wet mullet) but still kickass. the only thing to note is why in these films is the final battle between the main villian and the unstopable hero. we know the villian is smart but not athleticly inclined so of course the hero makes short work of him.
by killing the right hand man first it is stupid he's the one who can actally go toe totoe with the hero. at least in this film lance henriksen is at his best with his one bullet at a time gun.
