Review of Hard Rain (1998) by Glenn L — 23 Mar 2010
It was Christian Slater's second attempt at being or becoming an action movie hero (the first, Broken Arrow). I always thought he handled the roles well enough. Actually, it's really not all that bad a film.
The production value is quite good and there are a number of cleverly conceived suspense sequences; one involving Slater trapped inside a flooding jail cell, and his resourceful method of survival. Freeman is good, if not coasting with ease, and I like that he and Slater eventually work together as cop and crook.
Still, the overall film doesn't make much of an impression and is merely a passable exercise in action filmmaking.
