Too flamboyant and over worked for a simple story - low budget noires arent meant to be this fluffed up. Anderson embellishes upon his high brow direction techniques later on in his career - whch makes this a poor debut (or did Boogie Nights come out first?).
.. either way, the director's poorest film.
