It's a shame that Philip Baker Hall has never quite got the recognition he deserves because in Hard Eight he really shows off some major skill. As for the film itself, it's a competent debut from P.
T. Anderson with some nice dialogue and solid characters. They don't really do much in this subtle drama but it still has it's moments.
