Review of Hard Eight (1997) by Walter C — 18 Feb 2009
It's hard to believe that such a steadily paced movie where relatively little happens manages to be so engrossing. I began sort of half-watching it while I was organizing music on my computer, and I was able to follow the story incredibly well by listening to the dialogue.
PTA's measured, even directing is apparent even in this early work and all the leads manage to turn in excellent performances, even if it occasionally feels more like Wes Anderson than Paul Thomas.
A must see for PTA fans.
