Review of Hard Eight (1997) by Jonny B — 11 Feb 2011
To make a debut this tight and perfect you have to have the brilliance and brains of one P.T. Anderson. Not only can he write characters (i.e. Sydney you really feel his loneliness and torment) with great mastery he knows more technical tricks than most seasoned directors and, while not to the extent of his later films, puts his knowledge to use.
Nothing feels false. This is a great story with great characters and a masterful debut by our greatest director working in Hollywood.
