Review of Hard Boiled (1992) by Brian S — 02 May 2009
If you were to ask me what I considered the best shoot em up, action film of all time to be, I wouldn't even hesitate to exclaim Hard Boiled. This is John Woo at his finest and Chow Yun Fat and Tony Leung are both fun to watch with their characters as they try to get to the heart of a mob group as the bullets just keep flying.
The action scenes are some of the best ever put to film, the lighting and the shots are just beautifully done to capture the raw and explosive violence as it unfolds. The story is simple at best, but it works so well to bring you in and build up the action scenes along the way.
It's a fun and energetic slice of artistic violence that only Hong Kong could give us and definitely serves as a testament to how a non-stop action showcase should be done. Love it!
