Review of Hard Boiled (1992) by Movie K — 13 Feb 2012

This got to be the most death toll action movie. Lots of cops, baddies and innocents die. The last 40 over minutes of action gunfight is totally chaotic massacre. Overall quite a good action movie. Chow Yun-Fat and partner Bowie Lam are at tea house, looking at a gang of thugs dealing with arms.

Soon it turns into gunfight. Bowie is killed by one assassin and Chow revenge for him. Philip Chan is furious because the effort to nail evidence from them are gone. Tony Leung is an assassin and just killed a traitor in library.

Chow found the book which hide the gun. He likes the madam Teresa Mo but they just had a fight. She receive flowers with secret code. Philip decode it and states them to stop investigating. Tony works for boss Kwan Hoi-Shan.

Anthony Wong is another gang boss who want to hire him but Tony refuse. Later, Chow beat up Anthony for the massacre at tea house. Chow has an informant telling him Anthony is going to mess up Kwan arsenal.

Teresa receive flowers with code again. Philip decode it and want Chow steer clear of the case. Anthony want Tony to raid Kwan warehouse and even kill him. After he conquer the warehouse, he waiting for Tony to kill Kwan.

He is surrounded and want Tony to let his men go, he is okay to die. Tony has no choice but kill them all. Chow alone then attacks them. He and Tony point gun at each other but Chow is out of ammo. Tony didn't kill him and run away.

Chow ask Philip who is Tony. He get warning to steer clear. Tony is undercover for Philip to bust Anthony gang. Chow has track down Tony. He like to work together with him to bust Anthony. Then one of Kwan's man is back for revenge.

Anthony arrives and Chow run away. Tony kill the guy to prevent leak of identity. Anthony find out about the traitor who leaks info to Chow. Tony slip a diskette into his pocket and toss him to the sea.

That guy find his way to Chow and reveal the arsenal is hidden in a hospital basement which is own by Anthony. Chow send him to the hospital and Anthony got the info. Tony says he is going to kill them.

Teresa also reach the hospital. Anthony ask few men to assist Tony. He fold a paper crane to warn Chow and he change ward. Tony know some baddies is following him and he kills them. The other assassin kill the informant.

Tony and Chow go to the basement and ask Teresa call for backup. Philip and men have arrived. Tony and Chow found the secret chamber which can't be penetrate. Chow found a weak link and put their gun powder into the pipe and blow it up.

The assassin fight the duo. The cops start disperse the patients. Anthony lock the chamber and the assassin escape. He also shoot all the patients outside and lock all doors. They hold patients as hostages.

Tony and Chow blow their way out of the chamber. In one scene, Tony pretend to be minion who caught Chow, they enter a room full of hostages and kills the baddies. The SWAT team arrive to balance the situation.

Another continuous scene where the duo shoot their way through is also very well done. Tony accidentally kill Bobby Au-Yeung who is a cop. Teresa and SWAT team are trying to save the babies by bringing them down outside but keep been attack by baddies.

Chow go to assist the baby rescue. Anthony plants dynamite at every corner. Tony and the assassin fight. Both let the patients escape first. Anthony saw them escaping and kills all. The assassin shot Anthony but no more ammo.

He got killed instead. Anthony threatens the duo with the remote control. Tony decide to go after him. Anthony activate the bombs. Chow carry the last baby to jump down the window. His pants caught fire and the baby piss stop the fire.

Anthony hold Tony hostage and humiliate Chow. Tony twist Anthony hand to shoot himself, Chow shoot Anthony right eye. Tony didn't die and live his dream to sail a free man.
