Review of Harakiri (1962) by Antonio S — 24 Jan 2009
Very stylish High Drama about the superficiality of honour in Shogunate Japan, though certainly NOT a traditional samurai flick: it seems to abjure action as much as possible to focus on a family, and by extension an age, being dragged into its own destruction.
Brilliantly filmed and very powerful, though some mid-section problems with pacing may make most viewers nod off. Very much worth seeing, if you can find it.
