Review of Harakiri (1962) by Alan E — 08 Feb 2009
Tatsuya Nakadai is Hanshiro Tsugumo, an elder warrior who lost everything and has nothing to live for. Under samurai code, he chooses to end his life the honorable way by requesting to commit ritual suicide, or hara-kiri (self-inflicted disembowelment) in the house of a feudal lord.
Before the act is carried out, we learn of what becamse of his son-in-law in a series of flashbacks and plot twists. Not exactly your average samurai flick, this film has a pretty deep story. Tatsuya Nakadai is probably my favorite actor and this is one of his greatest roles.
