Review of Harakiri (1962) by Peter D — 26 Jul 2011
I absolutely love this film. Kobayashi is an absolutely incredible, underrated director that never received the credit in North America he deserved. This film is right up there with the Master Kurosawa's best-and that is saying alot.
Perfect character development, with a slow but delibrate pacing. As the plot unfolds, and starts to reveal itself, you become completely involved. It's been stated that this is an "anti-samurai" film, and that is absolutely true.
If you're expecting something on an epic, "Seven Samurai", scale, you may want to look elseware. Not to take anything away, as this is an absolutely brilliant film.
