Review of Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai (2011) by Scubasteve Walter M — 24 Jul 2012
An excellent remake and a 3D samurai experience of the highest sort. Takashi Miike comes with yet another thrilling and mesmerizing period tale about the importance of Bushido, and seriousness of the hara-kiri (or rather sepuku) ritual.
While it depicts a story within a story, it might shock with its lengthy, graphic scenes and astound with its calm and exquisite performance by Kôji Yakusho. The plot gradually reveals a truly sad and unjust turn of events, eventually leading to a stunning vengeance in the form of a climatic and deadly sword fight.
