Review of Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai (2011) by Peter F — 18 Sep 2012
At least for now, it seems that Takashi Miike has put behind art-tinted torture porn for remakes of old samurai films. Fans of the director may be surprised how relatively light on action and violence the film is (despite a really painful seppuku scene), and focuses more on plot and character development.
Unfortunately, those aren't Miike's strong points, and the film takes too long with plenty of sequences. A shame it didn't turn out better, because I think 13 Assassins was Miike's best film.
