Review of Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai (2011) by Yuston S — 26 Sep 2012
I thought 13 Assassins was a departure from the Miike catalog but Hara-Kiri is surprisingly short on action. Here you won't even find your standard fare gratuitous gore, just good ol' fashioned honor and suffering, Samurai style.
This film left me wanting but I enjoyed it nonetheless, chiefly because I actually felt a connection with a character in a Takashi Miike film. The story's a tear-jerker but this work stands in the shadow of Miike's last Samurai flick.
