Uncomfortable comedy and touching relationships. I wanted to punch the fat lady and give Zhao a big hug when it was all over, and Xiao Wu should have been honored with a parade, which goes to show how powerful the characters and settings in this film are when one can get so wrapped up in them so quickly.
Another wonderful effort by Zhang Yimou.
