Review of Happy-Go-Lucky (2008) by Barry W — 16 Jun 2009
A slow, abbreviated and mostly uninteresting tale of Poppy a perpetually optimistic flower among bitter weeds. Actually, Poppy is an interesting and mostly original character (if you ignore the Disney?s original Pollyanna), it?s just that the complications she faces, including a stolen bike and disturbed driving instructor, don?t challenge her sunny outlook enough much and thus don't make for much interesting viewing.
The movie's most promising plot, the inevitable break-up with her ten-year roommate Zowie when she meets the man of her dreams, amounts to nothing when the movie comes to an abrupt end. Don't believe the hype on this one.
