Review of Happy-Go-Lucky (2008) by Daisy M — 28 Apr 2010
After watching some Mike Leigh's movies, I had high expectations of Happy Go Lucky. With this expectation, I was disappointed by what I saw. Poppy was a person who did not take anything seriously. Instead of being cute and comical, she came across as being very annoying and even stupid at times.
She and her friends engaged in some pointless conversations, making the whole movie just boring In some scenes I felt like I wanted to strangle her. What got in to Mike Leigh when he wrote this ordinary dialogue, painfully acted out by a character that just would not exist in real life? The only character that brought some amusement was the driving instructor, who got me interested for a small moment at the end of the movie but these moments were not enough to save what felt like watching a bad movie.
