Review of Happy-Go-Lucky (2008) by Margaret L — 10 Aug 2010
Sally Hawkins is brilliant in her role as Poppy, a London primary school teacher. The film moves slowly, meandering through seemingly inconsequential moments in Poppy's life, but the film isn't supposed to be driven by the plot - it's essentially a character study of a woman who is, at her core, a happy person. Poppy's enthusiasm for life can be exasperating - especially to Scott, her tightly-wound driving instructor - but her bubbly personality is infectious, and Poppy can be thoughtful, serious and conscientious when it comes to responding to others' unhappiness.
Summary: You'll want to go take trampoline lessons when the credits finally roll. Definitely worth seeing.
