This first time I saw Sally Hawkins was when I caught a few minutes of this ages ago, and was taken with the natural talent that came through. Now I have seen the whole movie, it is easy to see that this is one of the best performances of recent decades.
Understated and relatable, Happy-Go-Lucky is far more laugh out loud funny than the contrived and sensationalised comedies that fill cinema lists. It doesn't try too hard, and that's exactly when films are most charming.
Excellent movie, excellent characters. Sally Hawkins is quickly becoming one of my favourite new British actresses.
