Review of Happy-Go-Lucky (2008) by Paul P — 17 Dec 2011
Like everyone has already said, this is the movie where everyone will look back and say "This was Sally Hawkins breakout role!" She is absolutely fantastic to watch. Eddie Marsan is brilliant once again, I need him in more films.
The character of Poppy is unbelievably sweet and in a constant state of happiness. But Leigh's writing and directing along with Hawkins performance take it out of caricature mode and make her a real person.
A few scenes didn't work for me(2nd to last scene comes to mind) but this is still a highly enjoyable film.
