Review of Happy-Go-Lucky (2008) by Anna L — 17 Feb 2012
The cinematic equivalent of Aspartame. A sugary sweet bite that always leaves an aftertaste. Sally Hawkin's take on Poppy is a staunchly positive shade that at times crosses into annoyance. The message can be initially surreptitious -- at least it was for me.
If you go into the movie expecting one thing, you'll miss the intended message. In the end, it all leads to a moving conclusion. It is ultimately well worth the diabetes-inducing characters and dialogue in order to get to the crux of the story.
