Review of Happy Gilmore (1996) by John B — 10 Aug 2013
"Happy Gilmore" is a mediocre comedy. It creates pretty memorable characters, and can be funny at times, but it just doesn't leave much of an impact.
Ben Stiller was absolutely hilarious as the nursing home orderly and I wish that there was more of him. While some of the humor was really funny, the other humor was just a bunch of unnecessary slapstick. Haha it's so funny, because he threw the golf club. That's never been done before, (complete sarcasm). Also, the fight between Happy and Bob Barker was praised so much, and some say its one of the best moments in comedy period. It's kind of funny, but I've seen funnier stuff in other comedies.
Happy Gilmore made me laugh more than a couple times, and "Big Daddy" is the only other Sandler comedy that made me laugh more than a couple of times. The humor is more hit than miss, but I still can't call this a classic comedy. I can say though that this is a classic Adam Sandler comedy.
