Review of Happy Gilmore (1996) by Blake M — 11 Jan 2014
Adam Sandler when he was still making good movies. He is a former hockey player who can't find a team, his grandma's house is being taken since she hasn't paid her taxes. He needs to find the money to save the house.
When the movers find some golf clubs, he makes a bet on who can hit it the farthest, and wins quite impressively by hitting the ball all the way down the street and into a neighbors house. He starts playing golf and gets a mentor from an old golf player with a fake hand from an accident with an alligator.
This movie is still one of Sandler's best. Everything just works and it is fun all these years. Weird to see Julie Bowen younger, but she comes off as older in this film. Wish he could make movies like this now instead of the crap he turns out ever year now.
