Review of Happy Feet Two (2011) by Abbie B — 07 Apr 2012
Once again, George Miller has brought a fabulous addition to movie collections everywhere. With a dense, psychological understanding of character interactions (much like the first first film), amazing visuals, bits of witty humor, brilliant voice work, and an amazing instrumental score, it's hard to say which of the two is superior. The conflicts between the relationships of Mumble, Erik, and Sven are well portrayed and believable, the impending doom of the entire penguin nation leaves you on your toes, and the touching moments where physical actions speak more than words are incredibly heart-warming. The atmosphere is fantastic, allowing the film to become independent from the original while still retaining what we all loved from the first film. What's more, for those that didn't like the way the first movie went a bit overboard with the environmental message, it's much more subtle in this one. Excellent movie, excellent original score, excellent voices, excellent visuals. I truly loved this film.
And... in reply to one of the reviews that said this movie was made purely for money.. Actually, production for this movie began before the first one was finished, therefore, before they even knew of its success. George Miller said himself that, since he's getting a lot older, he wanted to try and make Happy Feet Two better than the first. He said he wouldn't have bothered if he didn't think it would be better.
