Review of Happy Feet Two (2011) by Jacob B — 31 Aug 2018
The movie looks great, there are a couple of fun scenes not limited to musical numbers and I laughed a few times. Yet Happy Feet Two isn't as memorable as its predecessor due to the lighter tone. The first film was a mix between an outcast seeking acceptance among the community and a cautionary, if heavy-handed, tale about the dangers of overfishing.
If you were expecting a movie about Frodo Baggins penguin trying to bond with his son, you're going to be massively disappointed. His son contributes to the plot, yes but the actual story is about trying to free the Emperor penguins after they get imprisoned by a giant iceberg.
And there's a subplot that has no effect on the main story about a Brad Pitt krill and his gay best friend Matt Damon krill. Mostly because Warner Bros. wanted their own personal Scrat from Ice Age, for trailer fodder and to sell toys.
Also, this movie has a HUGE, GAME-CHANGING PLOT TWIST THAT...relies on dumbass kids not knowing what a puffin is or what a puffin looks like. Happy Feet Two has effort put into it but the plot is largely an afterthought.
The first film will always be the better one of the Happy Feet movies.
