Review of Happy Endings (2014) by Krista H — 16 Feb 2008
"Don't worry, she's not dead. Nobody dies in this movie, at least not on screen. It's a comedy. Well, *sort of*.
Personally I found this movie about as funny as having abortion. Which is, not at all, but rather pensively sad and emotionally charged even where it doesn't show.
What won me over is the rare impartiality with which action and narrative combine to create a story, while avoiding, in my opinion successfully, passing out its own judgement.
The movie is quite dense on small details hidden in the dialogue or the "flashcards". I know some people hated those, for various reasons. If anything, they rather enrich the story by narrating, in impartial manner, the facts that should not or could not be enacted.
All in all, we know how it all ends in a modern fairy-tale. But that isn't how it all ends in life, which sometimes just forgets to freeze the moment and goes on and on long after the fairy-tale is over. Are there really any such thing as a "Happy Ending"?
