Review of Happy Endings (2014) by Andres M — 20 May 2008
I rented this mostly because I have a big silly crush on Maggie Gyllenhaal, and the set-up seemed clever and amusing. The premise is one that's quite popular in contemporary cinema -- an ensemble of characters whose lives connect in small ways -- but in this case it's held up by genuinely good stories.
Delivered on all counts -- great writing and direction, solid performances from the whole cast. Not superficial, perhaps not brilliant either, but the most satisfying film I've seen in a while.
