Review of Happy Endings (2014) by Mega M — 05 Mar 2009
It's an interweaving of various stories, all slices of life about love and family. A frank look at real people & the strengths & flaws that made them human.
There is a fine line between subversive & just being pretentious. HAPPY ENDINGS is a film that, on the surface, had a tremendous amount of depth. But, the story is so immersed in being impressed with itself that it doesn't have time to just be.
This is a film that has both subtle character work and intriguing stories. It's just a shame that the actors were not trusted more. Throwing up title cards that obtrusively block the film, isn't interesting, it's distracting & the ending here is not going to be a happy one.
