Happy Death Day is about this girl, named Tree Gelbman, that is reliving the same day over and over again so that she can solve her own murder. Now, this movie isn't great but it's a fun watch.

It has a really good main lead played by Jessica Rothe and a mystery that, though has problems, is still fun. The one thing that I was glad that this film did was it was self aware of it's tropey form of storytelling.

Like they address groundhog day and all of that and even add a dose humour to it's trope. But, this film does have a fair share of downsides to it. Like the main villain isn't all that creepy.

He's just your typical, hollywood produced, horror baddie and you're, practically, use to everything he does at this point. Also, many of the side characters, except one, aren't all that memorable.

Now, to be fair, we do only get this one day with them and seeing as how that day repeats it doesn't give them much room to blossom. But, I'm just tired of films passing off a character as a querk and hoping that we'll buy it, because, most of the time, I won't.

Especially if it's a seriously cliched one. But many of those are small things. I only have two main problems, and they're big ones. The first one is the other villain. I won't give away who it is, but they're just bad.

They're bland and I mean very bland. I don't recall a good thing about them, so you don't feel dor them, nor did I find anything creepy about them. Also, their motives are kind of half-assed, which brings me to my second problem, the ending.

You could've easily cut out the ending and it would've made the film better, or you could've done the preferred option and rewritten the ending to where we cared more, but yeah it's not very good whatsoever.

The whole ending feels like an after thought. As if somebody just said "Hey, why don't we throw in a twist ending. That way it'll surprise our audience more than it already has," while in the final stages of pre production.

It just creates more problems while trying to fix this one sort of major, plot related, problem, and, honestly, I could've lived without it just as fine, if not finer, than with it. So, overall, Happy Death Day is a fun, enjoyable, film that has it's fair share of problems, but I would still recommend it as a decent popcorn flick.
