Review of Happy Christmas (2014) by Hugo G — 08 Jul 2014
Overall, this movie was by far, way better than I expected, and the actors were great too. And although it was similar to other Joe Swanberg films in the style the story is told and the improv, this one felt more engaging and the characters were excellent. That was my favorite part of the movie, the characters, and just how natural and authentic they felt. The whole conversations between Anna Kendrick's, Lena Dunham's and Melanie Lynskey's characters about the novel where some of my highlights and just gave me very good laughs and a big smile on my face. This was by far, better than Drinking Buddies, in my opinion. And although in the end, the movie just kind of stopped and the story felt incomplete, it still manage to improve in the characters lives and make some changes, so at least it somehow affected their lives in a very meaningful way. Therefore, it was a very good drama about a small family that even though it's slow and not overly dramatic, manages to keep you engaged and entertain with some extremely human characters that's worth to watch.
