Review of Happy Birthday to Me (1981) by Kaylee L — 24 Jan 2008
Virginia (Melissa Sue Anderson) has been accepted into the Top Ten of Crawford Academy, and by that they mean the Top Ten Coolest Kids (or Richest Kids), not the Top Ten in academics. Anyway, she is still regaining her memory from being in an accident which killed her mother when weird things begin to happen all around her. One by one her friends go missing (the audience sees them killed while she is left unaware.) She is on her own to discover the truth behind the disappearances of her friends before it is too late.
I thought this was a very on-par slasher. The acting was decent, especially from our lead, and it kept the audience guessing until the very end - which was an awesome twist, I might add. Very shocking. I found the movie fun, entertaining and surprisingly suspenseful. The kills and gore were well-done also.
I found this to be an under rated little eighties slasher. I enjoyed it, and found the ending to be a great plot twist. Well-done.
