Review of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) by James A — 07 Feb 2014
This latest take on a well- known fairy tale has been savaged by the critics, but it is not film that should be over analysed or taken too seriously. If you just accept it as a light hearted all action pop corn flick with its tongue firmly in its cheek, then there is plenty to enjoy.
Come on. Machine guns in medieval Germany, flying witches getting sliced to bits in an improvised cheese grater, a love-sick Troll squashing the heads of villains and the leading cast unashamedly hamming it all up in their American accents.
It is so ridiculous it is actually quite good and strangely amusing. It was like Dirty Harry turned up at a witches convention on the set of PuffnStuf. Brilliant.
