Review of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) by Youri S — 23 Nov 2014

A different twist to the children story. Quite good action and gore. Young Hansel and Gretel were send to the woods by their father. They were lured into the witch house made of candy and caught. The witch force Hansel to eat and Gretel as servant.

She took a nail and unlock her chain. She stab the witch and untie her brother. Together they make the witch fall into the oven and she die. The duo were welcome by a town after their escape and grow up to be Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton - witch hunters.

Peter Stormare a sheriff is going to kill Pihla Viitala for been a witch and the siblings hired by the mayor stop him. Jeremy check her and confirm she's not a witch. They caught a witch but she's not the culprit for the town's missing children.

They found a map of blood moon which is an important holy night for witches hence the mass children kidnapping. Peter send a group to find the children at night. They were all killed by the super witch Famke Janssen.

Thomas Mann is a big fan of the duo hunters and collect all their article. Famke has 2 other witch working for her. They are making a potion to be fearless of fire. Jeremy ate too much candy and suffer an illness so he has to take an injection every few hours or die.

They set a trap and lure the horn witch out. She put up a good fight but is eventually caught for interrogation. The duo figure the witch plan of 12 moons. Their next target will be a girl born in April.

The witch go into the town to catch that little girl. Famke attack the jail while Jeremy go save the girl but fight the other witch. Famke need the last ingredient from Gemma and the town helper save her but sacrifice himself.

Thomas save Gemma away. Peter kill the mayor to impose his law of blaming the witch hunters. Gemma look at an article from Thomas book and saw her mother been accuse as a witch. Pihla help Jeremy down from a tree.

Gemma go to the woods to find Jeremy and is attack by Peter and his men. Pihla strip naked and ask Jeremy to go into the water to clean up. Peter is gonna rape Gemma and all this while the troll working for the witches is watching.

It came out to kill them all and save her. The siblings bump into each other in their old wood house and found a witch lair underneath. Just as Gemma is going to tell Jeremy she suspect their mum is a witch, Famke appear.

She tells them the mother is a Grand White Witch. She fell in love with a human farmer their father. The witch need her heart during the blood moon for the potion but she's too powerful. So Famke need Gemma heart.

The father bring them to hide in the woods and the mother was burn to death by the town folks as she can't use her magic on humans. They also hang their father to death. Famke stab Jeremy and abduct Gemma.

When he awake, he is heal by Pihla. She says she is a good witch and so bear no signs of the dark witches. She found a book that can defeat the dark witches with the spells. Jeremy, Pihla and Thomas attack the woods gathering places with their blessed weapons.

Gemma ask the troll to help and he shows some positive sign. All the evil witches gathered. Jeremy show up and blast the head of a witch. Then Pihla shoot the machine gun at the other side. Famke is going to kill Gemma and the troll punch her away.

Famke throw it off the cliff and fight Gemma until the blood moon passed. Pihla pass her the weapon Some of the witches fly into the woods wire trap and slice to pieces. Thomas manage to shoot Famke down.

Gemma revive the troll. The final showdown is back at the candy house. Pihla use her magic to fight Famke but is killed. The duo fight her inside the house and Jeremy is strangling Famke when he needs his medication.

Gemma quickly give him the injection and together they beheaded Famke. Thomas and the troll join the siblings team now.
