Review of Hannibal Rising (2007) by Matías S — 08 Feb 2011
We now get to see Lecter's full origin. Probably not the scariest of Hannibal films but still is quite fun to watch with only a few cringing scenes and lots of eating, this movie holds up enough in my opinion.
The movie has cast of great actors that aren't in the spotlight like Tom Cruise or Bruce Willis which actually makes the film stand out as more mysterious and creepy. The story goes, young Hannibal's house is stormed by starving soldiers whom eventually chain him and his sister, Misha up then later eat her.
Hungry for revenge, Hannibal continues the film, searching for the culprits whom at his sister. The rest of the movie he goes through a downward spiral of cannibalism and vengeful thoughts. He even kills a butcher whom was awfully rude to his girlfriend, and decapitates him.
I would recommend anyone to see this movie to probably watch one of the early pieces first and keep an open mind if possible though sometimes it is scarier to keep most psycho cases' pasts a complete mystery though I'm glad Thomas Harris did go the extra route in creating a story to complete the circle of Hannibal's uprising and only hope that he keeps on writing.
