Review of Hannibal (2001) by Steve M — 28 May 2012
Though it is nowhere near the calibur of "Red Dragon"/"Manhuter" or "Silence of the Lambs," "Hannibal" is a fascinating movie that goes in-depth into the mind of Hannibal Lecter.
It isgreat to see Anthony Hopkins reprise his Oscar-winning and most iconic role. Even though the recasting of Claric Starling was impossible, Julianne Moore did a somewhat capable job as Starling. In an uncredited role when the film came out, Gary Oldman delivers a great performance as a deformed victim of Lecter.
The make-up for Oldman's character is fantastic and the score by Hans Zimmer is haunting and beautiful. The story is a little waek compared to "Silence" as it just seems like an excuse for Lecter to kill people.
