Review of Hannibal (2001) by Ken S — 14 Aug 2012
It took a long time for the sequel to "Silence of the Lambs" to get going. So long that Jodie Foster dropped out altogether. I'm not the hugest Foster fan, but I have to admit she is missed here, but Julianne Moore does the best she can.
Hopkins is good in the role that won him an Oscar...but the film just isn't nearly as good as the previous entry. I think a big reason for that is that the source material (the book) wasn't nearly as good as the source material of "Manhunter"/"Red Dragon" or "Silence of the Lambs".
The movie has gore galore, but its story and suspense are severely lacking. Also things like the "weirdest dinner party ever" near the end are just plain bizarre, not exciting to watch like the climax of "Silence of the Lambs".
I liked this, but I didn't find it nearly as enjoyable as its predecessor.
