Review of Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) by Jamie H — 19 May 2009
I liked this more & more as it went along & the ending was sort of the last hoorah for me & made it all complete & so fantastic. Only Allen could make such heavy topics & plotlines so quirky & humorous.
His neurotic characters are always such a treat, and this time with his constant fear of death & the unknown & his search of finding the real meaning of a life worth living is a delight to watch.
I like that it brings up the issue of thinking twice about an affair because though the rendevous between "Lee" & "Elliot" was exciting in the moment, afterwards they both realized it's not what they truly wanted & "Lee" goes on to marry someone who is really suitable for her and "Elliot" rekindles his relationship with his wife "Hannah" & I like that they all find real happiness in the end.
I was glad that "Holly" got her act together & find it so wonderfully ironic that she winds up with Allen's character of "Mickey" despite the fact that they previously seemed to be such a horrible & contrasting match.
So great! I like the little quotes before the scenes as well that you later find out are actually from the scene you're about to see. A nice little touch, in my opinion. It's, however, movies like this that make me glad I've never had a sister! All that jealousy, competitiveness, infidelity amongst one another, & drama.
Something I'm certainly glad I've done without, in my life! (though, of course I know sisterhood is not always like this..I'm just saying, I'm glad I have a brother instead!) Woody Allen.
..you've done it again. Two thumbs up!
