Review of Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) by Mikael K — 30 Oct 2010
A Woody Allen classic, âHannah and Her Sistersâ? is a funny but also thoughtfully melancholic drama about three sisters who are realizing that their youth is slipping away. This is a movie that has the potential to appeal to anyone as it deals with age and finding one's place in life. The depiction of aimlessness in the charactersâ(TM) lives is something that has gotten even more current in the decades that have followed it and the film feels current in other ways too; it looks and feels very modern.
Allen has given us many stories about women that feel soapy and even sovinistic due to the caharacters' focus on romanticism and superficial values. âHannah and Her Sistersâ? holds many of those aspects, but it's somehow clear that the movie and the characters are really about something much deeper and more complex.
