Review of Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) by Jj M — 26 May 2011
Probably the best Allen film I've seen so far. Typical sophistication tinged with a tonic of manic comedy. Although the story does revolve around Hannah and her sisters in Manhattan, every now and again it descends into semi-autobiographical territory revolving around that familar character that Woody Allen plays.
..basically it's himself! The loose connection that his character has with Hannah...and her sisters...becomes all the more poignant and acceptable by the end. This is rightfully engaging stuff and has a more maturer, a more graceful becoming than Annie Hall and Manhattan had.
The tongue-in-cheek quips about Nazis are hillarious too: "Oh I had a great evening (said sarcastically), it was like the Nuremberg Trials!".
