Review of Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) by Armando P — 28 Jun 2011
This movie helped craft the modern romantic comedy, helped usher in the idea of films focusing on several more stories and characters, earned three Oscars, and it's about some guy who's in love with his wife's sister.
For a film of such small subject matter, it's deeper and more beautiful than most. What I admire most about it is how it rings of trueness throughout. The emotional honesty of this movie is something to marvel at, particularly with Michael Caine's character arc, which involves lust and infidelity, and it's just cringeworthy, but also just so real.
To most, this movie ranks up with some of Woody Allen's finest work, and deservedly so.
