Review of Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) by Carlos R — 27 Aug 2011
It's barely the fifth Woody Allen film I watch and this is undoubtly the one I've liked the most. Actually I loved this film, it is a beautiful and marvelous romantic film. Never corny and always real, this film tells an episode of the lives of such wonderful and human characters portrayed by fantastic actors.
The ensemble cast (though not as large as some other films) is one of the finest I've seen. Michael Caine, Mia Farrow, Dianne Wiest, Barbara Hershey, Max von Sydow and Allen himself were all extraordinary.
The comedy comes mostly from Allen's character, who provide several simple but hilarious lines. The dramatic tension is built up from the very first scene. However, this film never feels forced or tired, it flows naturally helped by a perfect screenplay and lead by an outstanding work of direction.
Little by little, the film grows in emotions and by the end, which was absolutely lovely, it is a film that made me happy. This has to be one of the ultimate romantic comedies (I wish all were this good) and definitely it's one of 80's best.
