Review of Hanna (2011) by Shawn W — 16 Mar 2012

A very unique and well-made action movie, this movie is great for not only the fluid and well-choreographed action scenes, but also for the amazing performance by the young star of the movie, Saoirse Ronan.

Her role as a teenage girl raised to be a fearless assassin feels almost meant for her. To add to this, the two other leading actors, Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett are also fantastic. Cage Blanchett's character Marissa is so evil that you love to hate her.

Also, all three of the actors I've mentioned fake accents, Ronan and Bana with German accents and Blanchett with an American accent. They make it believable, which isn't always the case with actors using different accents.

The action scenes are very intense and most of them are filmed in an unorthodox way. It's hard to explain, but they feel almost artsy. It makes the movie unique and I personally liked it a lot. It separates itself from other action movies from the style used in these scenes.

My last comment was what made the movie really wonderful after I finished it: the ending. I'm obviously not going to spoil what happens, but it's so perfect and so well-done that your jaw will be dropped throughout the end credits thinking about why a great way to end the movie that was.

This is a great action-thriller movie that is a welcome break from the onslaught of CGI junk that we often receive from this genre. Watch it, there's a good chance you'll really like it.
