Review of Hanna (2011) by M H — 22 Mar 2012
Well after the watching the film, I have overwhelming sense of "That was weird". The film had it's shining moments, but I didn't buy into the whole altering DNA plot. And I don't think they explained a whole lot about it. I felt like there was so many unanswered questions in the movie. Around Marissa (Cate Blanchett) mostly. It just seemed rushed at times. I thought the beginning of the film (the wilderness) was boring. However, once Hanna was in the holding cell (and the escape) was brilliantly executed. Acting, action and direction. That was a great scene. I also liked the scenes where Hanna was discovering something for the first time...like music. I liked her sassy friend and the family. Those were nice touches in the film. I also liked the soundtrack in the film.
The acting was fantastic. I've been impressed with Saoirse Ronan and she did not disappoint. I think her accent work was fantastic. Impressed that she had to learn all those languages. Eric Bana did great as well. Cate Blanchett did well in the bad guy role. Overall, acting was top notch.
I liked the direction done by Joe Wright. I didn't care too much when he would spin the camera around and stuff like that..but for the most part a good job done.
With all that said, the film was just not quite what I was expecting. A little too weird and I said earlier...wish they explained things more. But good thriller and good action. Scratch that GREAT action.
