Review of Hanna (2011) by John B — 03 Jul 2012

Hanna felt like the best film Luc Besson never made! It followed many of the archetypes he loves to use. A protagonist that has limited/child like social skills but is very good at killing, a zany antagonist that ultimately undoes themselves, and a massive almost overbearing sense of style.

It's a really good looking film, so well-stylized and executed, Wright's confidence as a director shun through every frame. I also really liked the action scenes, I thought they were exceptionally well shot and choreographed, especially the long take subway fight was rather mind-blowing! Also, the soundtrack by The Chemical Brothers was great and I thought it fitted perfectly.

I liked when it was a bit over the top, since the film is pretty damned stylized, and a somewhat overly intense soundtrack fits that.
