Review of Hanna (2011) by Jordan N — 29 Aug 2012
This little big film did the job for me. Concise and sharp, Joe Pride & Prejudice Wright (!!!!) runs a sleek tight ship, and at the helm is the always astounding Saoirse Ronan who somehow always feels a bit too overqualified for the films she is in, namely The Lovely Bones. This film does a good job keeping up with her considerable powers though, and while Wright and his team border on showing off with technique at times, mostly I'm just glad they have as many tricks up their sleeve as they do. The hip typography lets on that design is a strong aspect in the film from the structure to the cinematography, and it helps the movie feel cohesive and well put together.
Despite this, some of the bits seem slapped together rather quickly, but they all serve some kind of purpose, if at times only aesthetic. One of the more believable child-warrior type films in recent memory.
